Adore
April 5, 2006

I felt it today
for the first time
in what seems like
Forever

Peace

It has been years
if I were to think about it
so many long painful years
a friendly shell left behind

I let someone in
it was over a decade ago
a man that had a fine veneer finish
with rotting oak inside


He stood before me
in front of a Judge and friends
and I do believe there was a court reporter
he made promise he could not keep

Believing for the first time
my soul was worthy of love
I was a fool looking back on that day
that love sucking leech

It was not what he did
women always assume it is
unable to live with the guilt of it
he sought my comfort

He could not see
irreparable damage done
my soul grew armor to survive
permanent in my head

Life is ironic
wearing armor is hard
you crave love like food
your soul starves

It came in the most bizarre way
the one person whom I let know me
I showed every last skeleton in my closet
he continued to be my friend

He breached the armor
I pushed him away with all I had
he saw through my cruel words with ease
he too had armor

Two broken souls
bonded by one sad fact
love has always brought pain
both sedate themselves

My armored friend is to be trusted
I feel myself let go with tremendous fear
in my heart I know he could not inflict the pain
my soul now sings
