Caught Up
"Caught Up" A Poem by TouchByAng
How many people have been touched, By the internet and AOL; How many lives have been destroyed, And became a private hell.
So many men and women, Effected by the internet; Their lives totally changing, Have we figured it out just yet.
So many come on for right reasons, But perhaps it is the style; Being who you want to be, Grabbing the glitter for a while.
Or just a comforting word, From someone you do not know; And even some physical attraction, At just words the screen does show.
Some have lost their innocence, And discovered an online fling; Or maybe took it further steps, And unhappiness it did bring.
So many sit behind the screen, And type I love you so; Not really feeling anything, Just words while on the go.
There are the good and bad, On this internet we share; Some people playing head games, And there's some who really care.
But all in all you look around, And see the broken lives; Or people awaiting happiness, When they think someone arrives.
Sneaking around on others, And hiding under a different name; Not caring who they have hurt, Going on to do the same.
Men and women breaking up, For on here time is spent; And changing lives each day, As those messages are sent.
Marriages that crumbled, Due to lack of some attention; So many breaking up, There are too many now to mention.
Men who lose their jobs, And women also do; And addiction to the internet, Has this happen to you?
The typed words do scream out, And make us feel we're needed; But, so many shattered lives, Was it cause warnings were not heeded.
People popping in and out, Of rooms and meeting others; Compromising their beliefs, Brought to them by their mothers.
Playing certain roles, Whether be to change their heart; Sometimes being someone else, Or not knowing where to start.
Getting angry over words, That are typed and never spoken; Drinking in saloons and all, Or just imaginary tokin'.
Setting new standards, Because of those we meet; Putting up with anything, Just because you're sweet.
Pretending beautiful bodies, Never thinking you will meet; And then when time goes by, Trying to change with much defeat.
The lies that are spoken, Are too many now to count; And how careful must we be, Going from the flats to the mount.
People moving south to north, Or perhaps east to the west; Meeting someone special, Do they know if this is the best.
Changing day to day, From the person you have been; Men leaving their wives, To fall in the devil's den.
Sure, there are so many good, Who never alter what they believe; But yet so many tortured hearts, Some who are out to deceive.
Just analyze your life; See just what there is to change; And give yourself some time, For your heart it would arrange.
Think about who you touch, By the words on the screen; For shattered hearts can tumble, There are so many who are mean.
They never really think about, The heart on the other side; But after they have torn it out, Some people have really died.
Some take this all serious, This AOL and all; And it can knock a big man down, No matter how he is tall.
Think about the people, You hurt and string about; For each one has some feelings, And it can take them out.
You may not take it serious, But on the other end; That person may fall in love, And you just want a friend.
Don't take someone for granted, Playing these head games; For one day it will catch up, And you will know the names.
