Stop Being Right. Start Being Happy.
By Randi Smith-Todorowski

There is no more destructive force in human affairs - not greed, not hatred
- than the desire to have been right.
- Mark Kleiman
Pay Attention to the things that make you Defensive. That's your EGO telling
you there is work to be done. Practice surrendering. The only prize for
being right all the time is that you end up alone.
The need to defend yourself shows the world that you are insecure and a
small-minded thinker. Getting louder doesn't prove your point, only
illustrates that you have lost control. When raising your voice doesn't
accomplish anything, the next act tends to be one of physical violence or
total loss of control.
The ego can't face the consequences of having been wrong. The only way to
escape ego and death of relationships by attachment to ego is to ascend it.
Open your mind by opening your body.
Learn to see things from other perspectives and points of view. Two people
watching the same movie will come away with two different experiences based
on their past and own life experiences. The same is true of two people
looking at the same object from different angles. Each sees it clearly from
where he or she is standing. Does that make one right and one wrong? The
same is true in life.
Arguments ensue when two people are fixated on their perspective and demand
the other to see it the same way. Take a moment to look at your computer
from the front and then from the side. This microscopic example shows how
something so simple can look so different when you literally change your
point of view.
Practice opening your mind to understanding someone else's point of view
today. Having trouble opening your mind? Kung Fu is a wonderful skillful
means to being a better listener and communicator. Black Belts in Life
don't need to be right to be happy.
