Hi all, I have a question!!! I have battled with weight issues since the birth of my daughter 10 years ago, but it has gotten way out of control since my son‘s birth 3 years ago. Here recently I was doing some research on line and have discovered that apparently I have an "endomorph" body type. As near as I can tell that means that when I work my ass off....it doesn‘t leave (lol) and when I even look at chocolate, I gain 5 pounds....Ok that‘s an exaggeration, but all the research I‘ve found does state that I am prone to weight gain and that it is very hard to lose/maintain my weight because of my body type. Of course everyone wants to charge me an arm and a leg to give me actual advice on what types of food, exercises, etc will help boost my weight loss and help me beat the fat. So the question is, has anyone here every heard of this and if so, do you have any advice or resources that would be helpful? I don‘t mind paying (a little) for some advice, but I hate to spend good money only to have it not work. I‘m not looking for the "quick fix", but would love to get some pointers on what types of things will give me the most "bang for the buck" so to speak.

Sorry to break it to you 2mom, but all that endomorph and somatotyping (general term) stuff is all crud. It‘s part of a bogus theory called constitutional psychology made up by a psychologist by the name of William Sheldon back in the 40s.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somatotype
According to this rubbish, there are three "types" or, as he calls them, somatotypes of people: ectomorphs, mesomorphs, and endomorphs. Sheldon basically ripped these terms from the three embryonic germ layers of a developing embryo: ecotderm (forms your skin, hair, nervous system), mesoderm (forms your muscle, bone, and blood vessels), and endoderm (mainly your mouth, stomach, intestine). There is no connection to these three germinal layers to your body type, he just pulled that out of no where. People don‘t have varying levels of embryological layer development. If you look anything like a human being (two eyes, head, two arms, you poo from your butt) then all these layers developed normally and everyone has the exact same makeup.
In Sheldon‘s delusional world, people who have the ectomorphic type are frail and skinny. Those who have the mesomorphic type are ripped and buff. Those who have the endomorphic type are round and soft. If that wasn‘t crazy enough, he tried to assign personality traits to these types. He classified all ectomorphs as being intelligent but fearful. All mesomorphs were popular and hardworking. All endomorphs were slow, sloppy, and lazy. Sounds ridiculous, doesn‘t it?
As you may have guessed, this lunatic‘s ravings have since been dismissed by science as a load of crock. However, as is often the case with these bogus weight management things, they selectively latch onto some few key points and try to convince you of its truth (think back to Atkins and the revived "Atkins Diet"). Knowing that no one would accept the bs about personality stereotyping, they have dumped that, but kept the somatotype descriptions for describing body type.
Well, there‘s really no such thing. You can‘t break down the weight profiles of people into three neat little categories. The physiology is far more complex than that and it includes both a very complex multifactorial genetic inheritance pattern and environmental factors.
Don‘t waste your time or money on getting a "custom tailored" diet/exercise routine for your particular morphic type. It‘s all bs. Weight management, in it‘s ultimate simplicity, boils down to a balance of caloric intake (food) versus expenditure (basal metabolic rate + exercise). If intake equals expenditure, you maintain your weight. If intake exceeds expenditure, you gain weight. If intake is less than expenditure, you lose weight. End of story. There‘s no way around it. If you want to lose weight, it takes a lot of discipline. You have to adhere to a sensible diet (counting calories can help immensely) and you have to exercise. That‘s all there is to it (much easier said than done, I know). However, anyone who tries to con you into anything else is just lying to get you to pour your hard earned money into their pockets.

(Big sigh) Figures HD!! I was hoping since so much of the physical descriptions were true for me that there might be something to it. Oh well, another one bites the dust!
