This is just a brief post to see if anyone else is or has ever experienced this.

I’m 28 years old so a little young to be menopausal yet, however for the past six months or so, I’ve been getting what I can only describe as a hot flush almost every afternoon. It’s always in my face, the skin itself becomes warm to the touch and my cheeks and forehead go very pink.

Although not life-threatening it is immensely uncomfortable and results in much applying of cold bottles of water and fanning while I huff and puff.

Have any of you other ladies been through early menopause and experienced these or could it be something else?

Opinions (and remedies!) are greatly valued!

BB

It does sound most peculiar, particularly for 28.

Has anything like this happened before?
Are you on any medications?
Are there any changes in your periods at all (volume, frequency, duration, pain)?
Are you on any kind of prescription contraception?

Hi there, thanks for the reply,

In answer I can say "no" to everything. My mum has epilepsy and did say that it sounded like the beginnings of a fit however as is isn‘t a hereditary condition it seems unlikely to be that.

I‘m pretty reluctant to visit a doctor about it as their solution tends to be to throw drugs at a problem and hope it goes away.

Some seizures can be genetically linked, so you can‘t say there isn‘t a famillial predisposition. However, what you are describing doesn‘t sound much like a seizure.

I would strongly recommend seeing a physician. This sounds somewhat peculiar and should be evaluated more closely. You don‘t have to take medicine right away. Your doctor should explain what is going on and can advise methods that will avoid medication if that is what you prefer.

However, if you don‘t mind playing the diagnosis game, I have some more questions:

Are there any red bumps or markings on your face that persist after the episode that didn‘t use to be there?
How long does each episode last?
Do you have a fever during the episodes?
Do you have a headache during that time?
Is there any facial pain? Any eye pain?
Does your nose hurt during an episode?
When you said huffing and puffing, do you have difficulty breathing or are you breathing faster or more deeply?
What is your overall stress level?
How much and how often do you drink?
How much and how often do you smoke?
Have you lost any weight recently without intentionally dieting?

HI, I dont know a TON about this subject....but a few months ago I had a few episodes such as this...so I investigated online a bit. What I found that seemed like OK answers was that some women can begin experiencing flashes here and there, intermittently, for as much as 10 years or more, before it becomes at all regular and associated with the beginning of menopause.

I am 10 years older than you, but I began having closer and lighter periods....for a few months, with the flashes. Apparently changes in lightness of period and the fact that they are closer together can be a sign of what they call pre-menopause. Strangley, just liek that all the symptoms subsided and I have had no flashes for months, and my periods are like they were again. Apparently it is normal for it to begin coming on years ahead of time a little bit, then subside and maybe have no flashes for a year or two or three again. This is just *MY* experience and agree with the others that if it continues or worsens, to see a doc. Funny the docs Ive seen are always hesitant to give meds...theyd rather do nothing and wait and see what ensues......lol.
