Start:
10/06/2006 12:00pm |
End:
10/06/2006 1:30pm |
Personal Development Center-Clark County Outreach Unique Event |
| Men
are asked to wear or carry a pair of women‘s shoes and walk a mile. Men
collect pledges to help the DV program. Shoes are then left in a pile
at the end of the mile to represent the women who did not live to tell
their stories. A short program includes local statistics from the DV
program, sheriff‘s dept, and DA‘s office, as well as the poem "I got
flowers today". Primarily an awareness/fundraising campaign. Women,
schools, local businesses are encouraged to cheer, and challenged to
raise funds. |

Personal Development Center’s Clark County Outreach Program Unique Event |
| CALLING
ALL MEN….
who want to end violence against women.
October is Domestic Violence awareness month. Domestic violence affects
many of us here in Clark County. You may be aware that your own mother,
sister, aunt, or friend has been a victim of abuse. Nearly 150 reports
of domestic violence come in to the Sheriff’s Department annually, with
80 residents of the county seeking services at Personal Development
Center-Clark County Outreach Program in 2005 with many returning from
the previous year(s). Please remember that many cases go unreported as
well. In an attempt to bring awareness to violence against women
(nearly 95% of victims are women) the Personal Development Center is
organizing a fundraiser in which all proceeds will go to the Clark
County Domestic Violence Program. The 2nd annual event is called “Walk
a Mile in Her Shoes”, where we ask that the men in our community will
literally walk in women’s shoes (some shoes are available day of
event). The pair of shoes that participants wear (or bring) will be put
in a pile for the month of October to represent the women from Clark
County who have been victims of abuse. Participants will walk
fromTuft’s Mansion to the Neillsville Fire Station. All walkers will be
asked to collect pledges that will be collected the day of the event.
The event will take place on Friday, October 6th, 2006 from
12:00-1:30pm. Funds raised will be supplemented by Thrivent Financial
for Lutherans. New this year: local businesses are asked to cheer the
men as they walk by their store location, and/or decorate their store
windows in support of DV month.
If you would like to register to walk in this event, or would like to
make a donation to the Personal Development Center’s Clark County
Outreach Program, please contact Lori Boushon at 715-743-6401.
Thank you for your continued support.
