*Davetta, Rhonda and Marva– (26:46 Documentary)- Not all abuse victims are able to tell their stories. Sometimes, it‘s just too late. These three women were killed by their partners. Their stories are told by the loved ones who were left behind. Remember their names:
• Davetta Roseboro (Fairfield County) Recognizing that the man she was dating was exhibiting signs of extreme jealousy and potential violence, Davetta broke off the relationship. On July 21, 2003, her ex-boyfriend broke into her home and shot her as she lay in bed sleeping with her youngest child. Her other two children also witnessed his attack. She did not survive. His trial is still pending. This is Davetta’s story.
• Rhonda Fleming (Pickens County) was ambushed by her estranged-husband as she left work on May 23, 2003. Prior to that, he had stolen her car, waved a gun in her face and threatened to do her harm. She had taken out warrants against him in Greenville County where they had resided as a couple, but due to the vagaries of the legal system, authorities in her new home of Anderson County refused to pick him up. He parked his bike several
blocks away, waited for her, and shot her three times. He fled and later committed suicide. She died from a gunshot wound to the chest. This is Rhonda’s story.
• Marva Grayson (Columbia) Marva Grayson was a newlywed, determined to make her marriage work. Friends and family were unaware of the violence she endured at home. One argument erupted while the couple was driving in the car. Pulling up to a service station, Marva‘s enraged husband doused her with gasoline and then set her aflame. Severely burned over 80% of her body, she survived for one month before dying from her injuries. This is Marva‘s Story.
