End:

Lutheran Settlement House Art Display |
| Children
don‘t have to be physically or verbally abused themselves to be hurt by
domestic violence, which is why, with the help of the Alonya P. Saraka
Children’s Fund, LSH holds an annual awareness and prevention event for
children and young adults called Listen Up: Young Artists Have
Something to Say About Domestic Violence. Part of LSH’s annual Purple
Ribbon Campaign, Listen Up! is the only creative arts initiative in
Philadelphia addressing the impact of domestic violence on children.
For the second consecutive year, LSH partnered with the Philadelphia
Mural Arts Program (PMAP) to gather entries for the contest. Students
between the ages of 10 and 18 from Big Picture, a year-long
mural-training opportunity provided by the PMAP, were invited to
express their feelings and opinions about violence in the home through
LSH’s yearly art contest. This event is sponsored by Beneficial Savings
Bank and the Department of Human Services.
Please R.S.V.P by September 27, 2006 by calling Suzette Belz at

This event is free and open to the public. Donations are greatly
appreciated

Domestic Violence Awareness Campaign LSH TO LAUNCH 2ND ANNUAL PURPLE
RIBBON CAMPAIGN OCTOBER 1ST! Last fall, LSH launched its first annual
Purple Ribbon Campaign, a three-month(Oct-Dec) city-wide initiative to
raise awareness about domestic violence. The Purple Ribbon Campaign is
one of many LSH efforts designed to educate the public about the issue
of domestic violence and to draw greater attention to domestic violence
in Philadelphia. It also helps LSH raise the funds needed to continue
to provide services such as counseling, legal/ medical advocacy, and
education and training, free-of-charge, to women and children who are
victims of or witnesses to domestic violence, and to members of the
community interested in learning more about the issue.
Why Purple?

A Show of Hands Against Domestic Violence |

Domestic Violence Intervention (DVI ) of Lebanon County Unique Event |
| A
Celebration of the Power of Community, Art and Education.
Hands are for helping, holding, and high-fives, not for hurting or
hitting. Yet we know that too often, a hand is the weapon of choice in
abuse. We also know that it can change, the cycle broken and the
pattern of abuse ended. Every one of us has the power to make a
difference, but our strength is multiplied when we come together as a
community. The power of community can change just about anything. This
year, on October 8th, we invite you to come together with your
neighbors and friends to take a stand and make a difference. Domestic
Violence Intervention of Lebanon County, Inc. (DVI) is hosting an event
that showcases the power of hands that help, hands that heal, and hands
that hold out hope. DVI has been helping victims of abuse in the
Lebanon Community for over 2 decades. This year, as our shelter
facility turns 10, we want to celebrate the helping hands of the
individuals in our communities and the strong hands of the victims who
have found a brighter future, so we created an event that honors these
powerful hands.
If you are interested in getting involved, there are also several ways
you can “have a hand in” this community celebration: Your class or
youth group can create one of the “Hands” for display in the park.(DVI
will provide a blank hand for this project)
Help with set-up and tear down.
Volunteer to assist in the children’s activities.
Work with staff selling hotdogs and sodas.
Aid us with other activities during the day.
Donate supplies.
Sponsor the event.
We will be encouraging people who attend to vote for their favorite
“hand” throughout the day, and the top three hands will receive special
awards from DVI and will be featured in the quarterly DVI newsletter.
For more information about how you can help, please call Diane at
717.273.7154 or email dvipec@nbn.net. Please join us for this family
friendly event on an autumn afternoon. |

Safenet-Erie Unique Event |
| Please
consider helping SafeNet with a special fundraising event. SafeNet is
not a homeless shelter, but a safe and confidential place specifically
for women, men and children who are victims of domestic violence. From
every city and township in the area, victims come to SafeNet seeking
support, safety and shelter from physical abuse and threats of violence
occurring at home. After more that 30 years of providing shelter and
many other supportive services, SafeNet knows first-hand that there is
hope and there is help. On Friday, October 13, 2006, SafeNet will host
a signature event, Boots and Buckles – Jeans and Jewels at the Cruise
Ship Terminal. We are asking your assistance to raise much needed
funding to assist with existing services. Our goal is to raise $25,000
for ongoing shelter needs and community education and hope you can join
use for this very special event
