I got married less then a year ago.
I have been verbally, mentally and physically abused by my husband, physically abused three times. Each time I called 911. The last time he abused me was on July 17, 2006 where I had to take a taxi after sneaking out of the house through the back garage door to the police department then I was transported to the hospital by the police department in an ambulance and even had to get stitches.
July 31, 2006 I went to court and got a one year protection order against him. A court date had been set up for Aug. 2, 2006 where he would pledge guilty or not guilty. I got a phone call on Aug. 1, 2006 from the North Dakota State Attorneys Office here in town telling me that because of my husbands’ new circumstances, that the judge said, case dismissed. He will never have to be accountable for his actions. Even the first incident court date has been postpone to this day.
Three times I called 911 and two times he was arrested but the police and had said that because of his circumstances he to this day has never stepped a foot into a jail. On the July 17 incident, while I was at the hospital getting stitches, he was even driven to the house by the police department to collect a few of his personal items and then they even drove him to a hotel where he would be staying.
Since all this has happened to me not only do I feel so degraded, I now have no faith in our government system anymore and I feel that if anything in the future ever happens to me again that I see no reason to ever call out for help.
If I had my choice, I would take my husband to court and make him accountable for what he has put me through and I would also take the police department here and the State of North Dakota to Court for what they have done to me and all for what they have put me through since April 22, 2006.
I sometimes watch court TV and I now understand why wives do what they do when they are abused and nothing is done because no one really cares.
