“NY MODEL FOR BATTERER PROGRAMS, CHANGING FOCUS – SHIFTING
EXPECTATIONS” The Institute will provide detailed
information as well as demonstrations on all facets of the
NY Model for Batterer Programs. The focus of NY Model
programs is to provide the courts with an additional
mechanism for offender accountability and an extension of
judicial monitoring. Expectations shift from individual
rehabilitation to a range of attainable, measurable
outcomes. The movement to end men’s violence against women
teaches that domestic violence is a manifestation of sexism
rooted deeply in history, law and culture. Therefore,
ending it will require substantial, comprehensive, systemic
social change. This institute sheds light on the many
complexities and layers of domestic violence in general.
