Yes, I, too, thought the topic was why do we believe in marriage?Hmm...maybe what should be offered up is links to surveys taken by Brazilians.
I would find that very informative. I do follow statistics from many international institutes, including from my country, and I enjoy this kind of thing.
Maybe you should stick to the home turf, Africanguy, instead of going out of your way to insult American women - on a women‘s website no less!
If I made an offense was maybe to Americans in general, not to American women. Could you quote what comment you felt like an offense ? Maybe you just misunderstood what I mean. |

actually...i dont find anything you said inspiring to me. for something that inspires me it needs to like just reach out and grab my heart.

actually...i dont find anything you said inspiring to me. for something that inspires me it needs to like just reach out and grab my heart.
I don‘t consider that inspiring. Inspiring to me is someothing that drives you to DO something. To take action. For example, an artist, when he sees something beautyfull, it inspies them to paint it.
I do play piano, and there are tunes that I listen for the first time, and it inspires me to go and learn them.
That is inspiring.
take action. Do something to change your life.

Bringing the thread back on topic and at the same time trying to keep it inspirational :)
Personally, I do not believe in marriage. I believe in the wonderful, exhilarating notion of lifelong union between two people who are in love, but I think marriage is simply a legal binding contract, drawn up to ensure the male does not leave the female all alone, and that the children grow up with both parents.
I think that was the original idea, but it doesn‘t work that way anymore. People are far too eager to divorce first time round, and then they find themselves in a vulnerable situation where a second marriage would be a good idea, so they sometimes rush into it, only to find that the problems which plagued the first marriage, never really went away in the first place.
We believe in things that we want to believe in. We believe something, either because we‘re afraid it might be true, or because we wish it were.
I also wholeheartedly agree with the poster who said that girls sometimes get more excited with the proceedings and the accessories, with the wedding rather than the marriage. I said "yes" to my abusive boyfriend because it would be so wonderful throwing a party with all my friends and doing the whole girlie shrieky thing where I would proudly show off the engagement ring on my finger, rather than taking a step back and wondering what the hell I‘m doing, pledging my life to a megalomaniac narcissist!
Having said all this, I do believe that good marriages exist. At the same time, I think a couple should wed only when, and if, they reach a stage where they‘re indifferent to marriage. I‘ll explain: If a couple can reach the point where, deep in their hearts, they have reached an informed and mature decision that they‘ll never part and that their souls are forever bound, sure, throw a wedding on the side. Because then they will remain fundamentally the same and will not act differently simply because they stood in front of a priest and said some words.

We believe something, either because we‘re afraid it might be true, or
because we wish it were.
This is true. You have a good sense.
