Sure, we always live with our memories. I think the letting go means letting go of the emotions tied to the past. Sometimes when we are small we believe that certain events are our fault, that somehow we are to blame. Acknowledging those feelings and letting them go releases you from the ties that bind us to the past. Forgiving ourselves. Freeing ourselves. No longer allowing those old emotions to keep us stuck in the past.
You and Ray are a good example of letting go of the past and freeing yourselves to love one another again. No we never forget but love does heal past wounds very nicely. :)
You ‘sound‘ happy in your posts, star. That makes me happy.

I love that poem a lot. I am in the first week of being alone. I have cried more than I ever thought I could. I am trying to find some type of inner peace.

I ended a relationship in january when he decided that he would tell me the truth about his past. Yuck. It‘s been a very difficult time for me being so blindsided. I went to a therapist for a while. And she said crying helps.

The past should always be there in memories...but not in emotions. If memories from your past bring any emotional pain or anger then you need to figure out why.
There was one particular incident from my past, just something that happened when I was with my ex, I remember it used to fill me with so much anger I couldn‘t sit still...I‘d wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning with it on my mind and I‘d have to get in the car and drive, wow it was sooooo powerful. I remember when I was well into therapy saying to my counsellor "Will I EVER get past this?" and I honestly didn‘t think I ever would...but you know, with time, with compassion, with me making the best of the life I have, with me opening myself up to love again...when I sit here and think about it, I feel indifferent, its just another memory...even if I try to muster up some anger about it, it just won‘t come!

The past teaches us lessons and makes us wiser .Letting go of negative things in our past and not allowing negative things in our future will keep us strong and healthy and most certainly happy .These things keep us thinking positive.
