I just got a phone call from my dad that we‘re being evicted from the building that we‘ve been renting since 1978 - before I was born... the building houses the shop/showroom/store room of our family business and it‘s also my home.
With the prices as they are, we have nowhere to go. This is practically shutting us down.
Not to mention all the troubles of moving the belongings of 30+ years out of there... and the bastard is giving us until March. March!
I also found my cat dead today - he must‘ve been hit by a car and died of internal bleeding curled up on my doorstep.
I can‘t stop crying, for the life of me I can‘t...

 kahlan, i am really really sorry that you are having a bad day, I hope, wish and pray that next couple days will be better for you and your family. I m really sorry for your cat, i know the feeling i had two beta fish and they die when i was on a long trip. i felt so awful that i was not there to do anything to prevent it. even though later my girlfriends got me new two beta fishes and they are doing so fine and fun. But i know the feeling our pets is usually it is like our best friends , i am really sorry for your lost. I hope you and your family will work things out and find a better and peaceful place. Please dont feel alone i m here as well as other members to comfort you.
my thoughs will be with you and hopefully in the near future something will come up so wonderful to make you feel better.

Thanks for the replies guys,
I woke up this morning with a panic attack. This is even worse than when I broke the engagement off. At least then there was a feeling of returning home - now it feels I‘m lost in a vortex f uncertainty and despair.
Where are we going to go?
How on earth are we going to move all this stuff?
Summer: The guy has been trying to get us out of here because the area was really developed into the heart of the capital since 1978 and he‘s not happy that he‘s not receiving thousands and thousands of euro in rent each month - even though he owns half of the capital! The greedy bastard wants more! We originally started renting from his father, who‘s a very close friend of ours. Unfortunately he‘s now old and powerless.
We thought we were covered because of our contract for so long, but we hired the best attorney to keep this from happening and she assured us that the only way for him to get us out is if he would state in court that he wants the space for his own use. Because he owns nearly everything, that wasn‘t happening for a long time but now he called us in for a meeting to announce he was trading the building to someone from Dubai.
I look around me and see all the familiar surroundings that housed my home and our business for so long and I keep getting overhelmed by waves of despair.
Moreover I‘m really worried on the toll this is going to take on my father...
PS: The flats are also where my sister lives. She‘s a special needs person and can‘t drive, so she can‘t live with my parents, who have a house outside of town. What‘s going to happen with her?

Oh honey, I am feeling your pain. The rug has been pulled out from under feet. And the loss of your beloved kitty is awful news. Please hang in there. A very smart woman told me once that some things make us stronger and to be proactive (not in so many words - but you get my drift).
I can‘t beleive the schmuck is not giving you at least 30 - 60 days to find alternate living arrangements after so long. Something seems wrong there.

I am so sorry to hear about your kitty....beleive me when I say I can truly relate to your pain....
As far as being thrown out of your home....what an ASSHOLE!! Sometimes you have to wonder about people and money...ya know....I‘m sure he thinks nothing of making your family miserable for the almighty dollar/euro...whatever. I am a firm beleiver in karma and "what goes around comes around"....
You are a strong lady and you and your family WILL survive this tragedy, and you will do it will dignity and grace, I am sure.
I the end that greedy BASTARD will get his....those kind always do!!

Well it‘s been four days since the news.
The following day at work, we told those closest to us what happened and also spoke with our lawyer.
First of all, nothing has been given in written form. We now know that the reason for the meeting was probably to intimidate my dad, and/or try to get him to agree on things due to the fact that my dad is a very kind man who usually prefers to negotiate and compromise instead of causing a fuss.
Well, my dad isn‘t backing off, and after a long chat with our lawyer we came to the realisation that if this guy wants us out, then he‘s got a lot to lose. Way more than we do, at least. The second he delivers an official document, we have him by the balls.
First of all there‘s no way he can have us out in a month, or two months, or six months. We‘ve been here for 32 years and with the market as it is now, if we look for alternative premises and don‘t find them, nobody can force us to go anywhere. More so as part of the building is also a flat where me and my sister live. We can also request a huge compensation for forcing us to move premises, and there are a million things we can mention as part of getting this compensation.
So after the initial shock, Thursday was the day when we put our heads down and started dealing with things in priority order. We‘re looking for a building which can serve as showroom, shop, offices and store room. It will certainly not be easy finding one, but if we find the appropriate land, then even a large warehouse in an industrial area will do nicely.
As for living arrangements, I had already started the procedure to fix my mom‘s old home in central Nicosia. This just means that I‘ll have to speed things up greatly, and have it ready by beginning of summer. I don‘t know if it‘s doable or even realistic but hey, if I don‘t at least try then I won‘t succeed!
So since Wednesday night, when all I could do was cry in sobs and look at the wall while my boyfriend was holding my hand telling me things would be better in the morning, we got over it and started working towards a solution. I wanted to scream at him then, say "you don‘t understand!" but he was right. There‘s no point despairing over things which are out of your control. The best thing to do is take back control, measure what you have, preserve what you have, calculate what you can afford to lose and let it go.
One thing is for sure: There‘s a hell of a lot of things to do until we can see the other end of the tunnel and yes if you sit down and think about them they seem overwhelming. I think the trick is not taking a step back and looking at the mountain, rather, taking your little shovel and starting to dig. It may very well crumble the business. We may not recover. But the word crisis in Chinese consists of two characters, I‘ve been told: One stands for danger, and the other stands for opportunity.
