Some of my favourite prayers and qutoes on the subject of god......
I asked God for strenth that I might achieve
I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health that I might do greater things.
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy.
I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for power that I might have the praise of men.
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am, among all men, most richly blessed
--------------------------------------------------------------------
God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks to us in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: It is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world C.S. Lewis
------------------------------------------------
I asked God to take away my pain. God said, No. It‘s not for me to take away, but for you to give it up. I asked God to make my handicapped child whole. God said, No. His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary. I asked God to grant me patience. God said, No. Patience is a by-product of tribulations; it isn‘t granted, it‘s learned. I asked God to give me happiness. God said, No. I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you. I asked God to spare me pain. God said, No. Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me. I asked God to make my spirit grow. God said, No. You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful. I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life. God said, No. I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things. I ask God to help me love others, as much as He loves me. God said...Ahhhh, finally you have the idea

I love this one. I love him.
2008 Prayer for Our Nation - Dr. Ravi Zacharias Holy Father, in a world where so many are hungry, You have given us food in abundance; In a world where so many are hurting, You offer to bind up our wounds; In a world where so many are lonely, You offer friendship to every heart; In a world longing for peace, You offer hope. Yet, we are so stubborn and resistant. Have mercy upon us, Lord. Our nation is at a crossroads this year; we look to you to be our strength and shield. Please give us the guidance to elect one who will honor you and to respond to the wisdom from above so that our hope may be renewed and our blessings be treasured. In God‘s holy name.

My favorite is the nicene creed. Call me old fashioned, but I think it covers my anger, my fear, my beliefs and most of all my forgiveness,
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven. By the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended in heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen
If this is what I can believe to be true, I can believe in the goodness of man. Isn‘t it what it‘s all about?
Of course if you‘re not catholic, this means nothing and well, carry on...

I like this one. Several years ago I found a framed copy of it at a second-hand store. When I brought it home, my then stbx saw it and told me how much he liked it.
I so wanted to respond, "Why? It describes everything you‘re not. You hurt me because I tried to live this way. You assumed I was beneath you." But all I could do was look at him in amazement. It was one of the few times during our divorce that I refrained from telling him what I thought of him.
Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let not this blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Les Crane recorded it in 1971. I was there (meaning alive) then. I was 25, had spent two years overseas in a little shootin‘ war, was married and my first child was one.
That was a lifetime ago. That child just turned 38 and he and his wife (his second) are expecting his/her/their first child next month. I‘ll turn 62 then. My son fought in Desert Storm (the Gulf War - 1991).
As Kermit says, "Time‘s fun when you‘re having flies!"

Here‘s one for you, wiz....
YouTube - Marvin Gaye "What‘s Going On / What‘s Happening Brother"
In 1971. I was busy being a hippie. Ended up marrying a military man - through and through. For over 30 years he served, now it‘s the American Legion. Funny that. I was busy making love, not war...peace and all that. I love my memories. I loved pot too! ROFLMAO
Kidding aside, thank you and to your son a thank you!
