In the world of Kung Fu, if an altercation results in a fight, you have already lost. We train hard physically to manage our real enemy- our emotions. Training in Kung Fu gives me a chance to teach others to observe themselves experiencing adversity and see what happens.
When you have been challenged in some way, how do you handle it? Do you immediately react? When someone hurts your feelings, do you fire back? Fighting fire with fire means everyone burns. Learn to respond. In Kung Fu we call it Deflect and Redirect.
Last week, I helped a friend make a powerful connection. She didn‘t like the outcome of the meeting. In an effort to say thank you, she included something very sarcastic and hurtful towards me. Of course I wanted to fire my own missle back, but my training has taught me to let it go. Sometimes doing nothing is the best defense out there.
Training in kung fu is really about training your mind so you can live happily ever after. Need help managing your emotions? Visit the new at-home dojo now available at www.atlasmartialarts.com
