I‘ve been with my husband for 16 years. Recently, my daughter, who is bipolar, got into some trouble and caused alot of emotional and financial problems. The judge sent her to girls home because she was out of control, on her way to jail, most likely. She seems to be doing well, now. She and I are in counseling. My husband refuses to believe that she has changed. He does not want me to have anything to do with her. He is mad because I am taking her to visit my family on Mother‘s Day. This is causing serious problems. I have tried to explain to him that no matter what, she is still my daughter. She may be almost eighteen but she will still be my daughter till she‘s 90. I told him that I don‘t want to dwell on past events and as long as she is trying to work on her problems I will be there for her. He may never get back on good terms with her but I need him to understand that I will always love her and stop making this an issue. I don‘t force the two of them together, I can love them both. Any advice?

Bipolar children are extremely difficult to live with. You are right to continue with her relationship with her. She needs your love more than anything in the world. Things will get better. She coulkd just be in one of the cycles that bipolars go through. Please see to it that she continues with her counseling and stays on her meds. Also you might ask about a mood stabilizer for her. These will help withg the mood swings that I am sure you have been seeing. If you need to talk I am usually here daily in the afternoons. I will listen.

That‘s sad--you can‘t force him to attend family counseling but I would tell him if he wants input into the situation, then he has to attend and give it there or else ‘don‘t bitch about what you won‘t participate in.‘
