This is a question I got via email, so I‘m going to answer with one of my previous posts on UTI‘s and Yeast Infections. If anyone has further more specific questions, please feel free to ask. thanks. DrWS
is it common for women to have a yeast infection and a urine tract
infection how long does it usually last. and how do u cure both of them
at the same time.i get a yeast infections after my period and it is
pain full to have sex even though there is no signs of a yeast
infection.my doctor has treated me for these things but it
reoccurs.what is urine tract infection /and what causes it.
UTI‘s, yeast infections, STDs, bacteria, fungi, viruses... There
are so many things that can go wrong down there, it can make your head
spin! Thus people are often confused on the causes of certain
gynecological conditions.
Maybe I can help in answering some of your questions:
First
of all, women do not typically get UTIs from their male partners, but
sexual activity does increase the incidence of female UTIs. A
typical UTI is due to gut bacteria such as E.coli spreading from the
woman‘s gut to the urethra. Even if the male is circumcised, and
wearing a condom, if he goes from the "back door" (anus) to the "front
door" (vagina), he can spread the gut bacteria forward to the
urethra. You can even give yourself a UTI if you do the same with
a vibrator. So UTIs are considered sexually associated infections
and not true sexually transmitted infections. For a more detailed explanation please read:

Secondly: Yeast infections. They CAN be transmitted
between the sexes. A yeast infection can occur more easily in an
uncircumcised man, due to the closed space between the head of the
penis and the foreskin (yeast can actually grow in any dark moist
space, including other skin folds as well). However if a little
extra care is taken to clean the area and wipe properly, this shouldn‘t
be a problem. Uncircumcised men are usually educated on proper
hygiene at a young age to avoid such problems. For more on yeast infections:

Lastly: HPV is a virus which can cause genital warts or
penile or cervical cancer. HPV can be spread via sexual
contact. Using barrier contraception such as a latex condom can
decrease the incidence of HPV infections (whether circumcised or
not). There is also a vaccine for young women which protects
against certain types of HPV.
I hope this clears up some misconceptions and answers some of
your questions. Let me know if any of you have more questions.
