I sure wish Dr. Sandra Brown was still around on the WomanSavers Forum to help with this dilemma; it sounds like your mom needs a professional mental health practitioner to talk to for a while. 

Have you tried to find someone such as a clergyman or a respected family friend that might be able talk some sense into her to at least slow things down until she gets to know the man better?   Honestly, though, she‘s an adult and however foolishly she behaves, she‘s still an adult who is permitted to make her own mistakes.  If she refuses to take into consideration all the compelling evidence you‘ve provided about this man‘s character and motives, I don‘t think there‘s anything you can do that will stop her. 

One thing I question though - if the man is still legally married,  he can‘t legally take a 2nd wife.  Does your Mom realize this?

You might want to get some professional help for yourself to help you handle your feelings over this until the **** hits the fan (which sounds like a good bet), and be prepared for ways to help your Mom when it does.

I checked with one of my experts, retired Nassau County Police Dept Detective Mike Irise, about ways to do background checks on someone.  Here‘s what he said:

Licensed agents, i.e. Police Officers, Sherriffs, Feds, and the one that you or I could hire, private investigators, have the best access to information.

If you can‘t or don‘t want to go that route, one website that comes to mind, and a good starting point, is Zabasearch.com.  Go there and type in your name to test it.

You can also try "Background Check" in Google; there are a number of listed links to get info.
