My former is 69 with HPV 16 throat cancer. I am, of course, terrified, though my paps were always normal, and my last two I specifically had HPV tested. I don‘t have a cervix, though, so I wonder if HPV would decide to live in my throat if I got it. My doctors aren‘t very informed about HPV, so if you have anything to offer, I‘d greatly appreciate it. What is the incubation period for 16? Should I get Gardisil ? (I‘m in my 50‘s) What about a blood test for 16 I read about on line? One of the articles said that there is nothing that can be done anyhow...I don‘t know if I should be thinking that I dodged a bullet, or if I should be paranoid for years to come. Thank you!

There isn‘t likely much reason for you to worry. You could only get infected with HPV in your throat through unprotected oral sex. You can‘t develop oral cancer from HPV through unprotected vaginal intercourse. Even if your mouth was infected, the probability that it will develop into oral cancer is exceedingly small. Most people simply kill the infection without any symptoms at all. Men are at more risk for HPV oral cancer than women anyhow.
The vaccine won‘t do any help if you have already been infected, but it will protect you from future infections.
If you are concerned, you could get checked for HPV though something like to a throat swab (similar to how they would test for strep throat).

Yes if you have unprotected oral sex it is Very possible to get hpv in your throat and mouth. The fact that it was 16 is very concerning. If you are worried. I would advise you to see an ear, nose and throat doctor.
