Dear Dr. I am in my mib 20‘s after complaining many times to my doctor about pain in y left side; she finaly sent me to get the necessary tests only to find out that I have ovarian cyst. She told me that it is normal for some women to have it and sometimes disappears on its own. I am schedulled to have another ultrasound in a few weeks to see if the size has increased. Doc I am not sure what to make of this I know something is wrong and the pain in my left side does not go away and in addition to that I get lower back pains and sometimes pain during sex. I also experience frequent urination..Do you know what lifestyle changes I can make to help with this situation?? Is there something linked to women who have ovarian cysts? What would you suggest my next step be? do you think I should be demanding my family dr. to send me to a specialist?

Hi
I have the same on my right side. Dr explained to me that I have a cyst that grows each month and bursts when I have my period. He also said that I will have this until I go through the menopause.
There are different types of cysts though and not sure what you have.
Hope you get the answers you are looking for.
xx

Hi Goodbye,
In your age group and actually in all premenopausal women, ovarian cysts are pretty common. These are what we call functional cysts which increase in size, and may cause pain but then go away in a couple weeks. Your doctor is checkiing to see if the cyst decreases in size, and if it does it was most likely one of these benign (non-cancerous) functional cysts. Lets see what your doctor sees on ultrasound and you can then go from there. Keep me posted and let me know if you have any follow up questions.

You should change Dr‘s then. Get one you can communicate with, and that you trust.
Good luck!

I‘m 47 y.o. I too, have pain, mostly on my right side, sometimes during sex (usually doggy position). My doc told me the same thing about the functional cysts. Sounds like this is very common for women.
I‘ve been having problems with abnormal paps & inflamation of the cervix. When I mentioned the pain at my last pap in late August, the doc set me up for an ultrasound. I had the ultrasound a week ago, and I‘m waiting for the results.
Let‘s all keep each other posted!

p.s. Sunny - from what I‘ve heard, the average age to start menopause is mid-50‘s, so you have some time to go. Altho, you never know exactly WHEN it will start - could be earlier!
