I am trying to determine my options in a hysterectomy.

-keep or have cervix removed

-keep or have ovaries removed

-important info to consider about the hormones

could you give some information on what are the reasons/effects of the options above? I am starting perimenopause symptoms if that makes any difference. All of the information is confusing. I will have this conversation with my doctor of course but would like to go into the meeting with some general information so I can better use the time during that meeting.

Hi checkingoptions.
It‘s great that you would like to make an informed decision about having a hysterectomy. The options for having a hysterectomy, what type and alternative to hysterectomy depend on a lot of factors, such as your diagnosis, age, symptoms, whether you are done with childbearing, etc.

May I ask WHY you are considering having a hysterectomy? I can‘t really comment on what your possible treatment options are if I don‘t know your diagnosis. For example a woman with advanced cervical cancer would need her cervix removed, whereas another woman with painful fibroids (benign uterine tumors) may only need part of her uterus removed, without removal of the ovaries.
