Dr. Womansaver,
My ob-gyn told me to keep track of my periods and record the first day. Since I been on the pill they are coming more regular. But i have a question about the first day. When is that? the day i see a little bit of blood like a very small amount of stringy blood with the usual stuff? or the next day when I really see a lot of blood coming through like the usual amount of blood when I actually need a pad? I never used to have the small amount of blood before; only now that I started the pill. I would have asked my doctor but I didn‘t expect this to happen. I wanted to call to ask but I feel dumb asking this silly question now. Please help, i really appreciate it.

Your question is very valid. Your first day of your period is when you start bleeding and continue to bleed for the next 5 days. The small amount of blood you described before your period is called spotting; this sometimes occurs due to oral contraceptive pills. If you have any further questions please feel free to write in anytime. However remember that your doctor is there for you, to answer any questions or concerns you have, so don‘t feel shy to ask anything, even if you feel it‘s a silly question. You should be able to call your doctor‘s office and speak to him/her or a nurse. If someone is not available to take your call, they will usually call you back with the answer to your question.
