I‘m 20 yrs old and for the past 3 yrs I‘ve been having clitoral pain. I would describe it as a tingling pain or a pins and needles type of pain. I think it might be nerve damage, i been to many Drs which are helpless. Last week i went to a gyn and the dr said it sounds like clitrodynia a form of vulvadynia. She prescribed me Amitriptyline 25 mg...its been 2 weeks...and it doesnt help at all..I‘ve done plenty of research and the only thing i can come up with that it really sounds like is..nerve damage, i read clitorodynia can be caused by trauma to the clitoris but would that be considered the same thing as..nerve damage? please help im in so much pain. the pain is constant and is worse..when i have sexual intercourse...

Well, rule 1 is clearly, don‘t have intercourse until the pain is gone. When you are in pain, you don‘t do anything to make it worse. That part should be very simple and straightforward.
Clitoral pain is one of those things that medicine knows very little about. It may be nerve damage, it may be nerve compression, or it may even be psychosomatic. It may also go away with time. Do a watchful wait for now, and don‘t have sex until you are pain free.

Hi Nicole1,
I‘m sorry to hear of your situation. To answer your question,
clitorodynia simply means pain in the clitoris, and vulvodynia means
pain in the vulvar area, both of which can present with a burning, stinging or pin prick-like sensation.
The causes are not well known,
but it could be due to either trauma or nerve damage due to other
reasons.
I would suggest to stick to the medication prescribed by your
doctor and make sure to follow up regularly to voice any concerns or
questions you have.
Here is an article which lists other treatments you can discuss with your doctor:

And here is some more information on vulvodynia:

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
