i have been treated for oral thrush for the past two months. my doctor
prescribed nystatin 100000u suspension for that time, and it doesn‘t seem to
be going away. i‘ve curtailed my intake of sweets and carbohydrates. i
have no other health issues, at least that are known. my doctor wants to
prescribe more nystatin with no other tests. i‘m not sure where to go next,
other then more medicine.

Hi.
I‘m sorry to hear of your problems with oral thrush. Antifungals like Nystatin (the swish and swallow medication) that your doctor has you on right now is probably the best way to treat Oral thrush.

Other things you can do are:
-Eat unsweetened yogurt, and taking acidophilus (either in liquid or capsule form).
This can help restore the normal bacterial balance of our body.
-Maintain proper oral hygiene, and visit your dentist at regular intervals, preferably every 6 months.
-Avoid starchy and high carb foods.
-Salt water rinses: Dissolve 1/2 tsp. in a cup of warm water, rinse and spit.

Some alternative/herbal remedies which could help are:
-Garlic capsules
-Caprylic Acid capsules (not to be used if you have Ulcerative Colitis)
-"Yeast-Gard" tablets
(all the above 3 can be found in a herbal/natural food store, but make sure you confirm with your doctor before taking any of the above to make sure they don‘t interact with any of your other medications)
